Course Description

This introductory two course package will cover the critical areas of Telemental health and Telesupervision for mental health professionals through six individual modules. Topics include the benefits and challenges of online therapy services, best practices when performing remotely, legal and ethical considerations, and techniques and strategies that contribute to the efficiency of telehealth as a delivery modality.

Telemental Health

This telemental health introductory course will cover the benefits and the challenges of engaging in online therapy services or telemental health counseling. Participants will learn best practices for handling crises or challenging cases in telemental health and the importance of screening clients for appropriateness prior to engaging in telemental health. This telemental health training will provide an overview of ethical and legal considerations in clinical work using online therapy services as a delivery modality.

Supervision

In this introductory course, you will review current best practices pertaining to telesupervision, particularly in the fields of therapy and psychology. You will learn to manage employees remotely while reviewing specific technological requirements needed to provide effective online supervision, explore ethical and legal guidelines for telesupervision, and assess challenges and benefits of online supervision. Through this remote work training course, you will also develop techniques and strategies that contribute to efficient telesupervision.

Professor ImageKathryn Klock-Powell, PhD, LMFT, RPT-S, BC-TMH - Kathryn Klock-Powell is a full-time Professor at Northcentral University’s Marriage and Family Therapy Program. Dr. Klock-Powell is located outside of Savannah, Georgia though she is originally from Long Island, New York. She received her Master’s Degree at Hofstra University and completed her Doctorate at the University of Georgia, both in Marriage and Family Therapy. Dr. KP has a group practice in Pooler, Georgia, Building Blocks Family Counseling. She is a licensed marriage and family therapist, registered play therapist, and an approved supervisor for AAMFT and APT. She has been a Board Certified Telemental Health therapist since 2017. Her clinical interests include high conflict divorce, autism, trauma, childhood sexual abuse, and using technology in therapy. She has over 25 years of clinical experience. She is currently serving as the Chair for the Georgia Composite Board for Licensed Professional Counselors, Marriage and Family Therapists, and Social Workers. She provides distance supervision and play therapy supervision groups. She is passionate about providing experiential learning opportunities for students and sharing her clinical experience.
Telesupervision
Dr. Yulia WattersYulia Watters, PhD, LMFT - Yulia Watters is a licensed marriage and family therapist. She is the director of curriculum development for the School of Social and Behavioral Sciences at Northcentral University. She has an online private practice primarily serving Russian-speaking and French-speaking population. Watters is a Clinical Fellow of AAMFT and an AAMFT Approved Supervisor. She is also a board-certified TeleMental Health Provider.experiential learning opportunities for students and sharing her clinical experience.
